At Chelford Farm Supplies we carry a wide range of chainsaw chains to suit a large variety of saws. From industry leading brands such as Oregon and STIHL. Whether you’re an industry professional or domestic user, have a battery-powered or petrol saw, we’re sure to have the chain you need.
Are chainsaw chains interchangeable? Chains unfortunately are not interchangeable and finding the chain that suits your saw is not always an easy task. The chain gauge, chain pitch and number of drive links are all factors that must correspond to the measurements on your chainsaw and bar. The tooth profile or chisel should also be considered when choosing a new chain, as it can greatly alter your experience with the saw.
Can chainsaw chains be sharpened? Chains are designed to be sharpened as they inevitably begin to dull. Often chains are made with wear markers on the chisel profile of the drive links: one to indicate the minimum depth of the tooth and another to indicate the minimum height. With a good sharpening technique, your chain should wear evenly to ensure you get the most out of your chain. Sharpening systems such as the Stihl 2-in-1 Easy File Chainsaw Sharpener make the process extremely easy.
How are chainsaw chains measured? Chains can be measured by the metric or imperial systems and these measurements are often provided by manufactures on their packaging. However, length measurements of chains have limited utility, as the overall length of a chain is determined by a combination of the pitch and number of links. Different manufacturers also occasionally use very similar length chains that may only have a single link difference but will likely have the same overall length listed. It’s for this reason that you must be aware of the exact number of drive links required for your saw and bar.
What chainsaw chain do I need? It’s always best to consult a professional to help find the chain suited to your saw and our team of machinery experts is always happy to help. By finding the tooth profile, chain pitch on your saw and guide bar, gauge on your chainsaw bar and the number of drive links required for your saw, you’ll be well on your way to finding the correct replacement chain you need.
